Open 13.1 Testing

It was time. 3, 2, 1, GO! No looking back. How did you prepare this year for your first test? Did you train enough? Did you work hard when others didn’t? Did you strive to improve each time you stepped into the gym? All of those questions mattered and none of those questions mattered. Now you were in the thick of it. You had to rely on whatever your past experience had taught you about how to handle yourself in this moment. All the training and fitness wasn’t going to matter if you couldn’t stay composed. It was 17mins long!!!! There were screams, cheers, barbells slamming, hip hop blaring, and a judge yelling in your ear. How were you going to respond? Questions pop up in your head. You have to make in the moment answers to yourself to keep going. You are committed now and there is no looking back. One more rep, one more rep, stay present, stay in the moment, listen to your rhythmic breath and start moving to that beat. Nothing you can do in training can simulate these feelings you get in the competition. It is always harder, it is always more demanding, and it is always a little bit more scary. And when it is over you remember fully why you chose to do this.
